The pollution is such a problem. In part it is intentional. The farmers add a lot of chemicals to the water to increase the speed of nacre deposition. That is just wrong! But, unfortunately, it is the Chinese way.
Chinese pearl farmers! Take lead from Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines! Keep your waters clean or the Chinese freshwater pearl industry will go the way of the Japanese akoya and Biwa industry.
